LINO-PRINTING AND ETCHING

Lino-Printing was my first Print Making technique. This technique is based using carving tools to carve out the negative or positive spaces of your chosen image onto the lino.

I copied an image of a flower onto the lino surface and then using lino tool to slightly carve the outline. The first thing to have is the bench hook because the purpose was to provide a stop to the lino from moving elsewhere. When using the lino cut, the important thing to do is to remove your hand away from the tool in front and put it from the back, so there are no injuries occur.

I used different lino block ink and spread the ink across the lino surface using roller. At the top image, shows four different gradient effect that merge two colours together such as red with yellow, blue with green and so on. Furthermore, I got the idea to add more patterns at the corners to enhance the design. I chose flower to represent me as being feminine and fragile because it's a sense of flower trying to grow beautiful. However, to achieve it, you need to go through difficult times which makes you grow stronger than ever.

I went through the newspaper and found a leopard image, to use for my etching. It got my attention because of the eye and patterns on the skin. I traced the image on top with a slight of pressure so that the outline will show clearly onto the back surface. The plate is then put through a high - pressure printing press together with a sheet of paper which it have to be moistened to soften it. The paper picks up the ink from the etched lines, making a print. The process can be repeated many times and I created four design of the same image but in different tones of dark to light.
